Wow the thief finally speaks.
If you "found it" I am sure you will do the right thing and return it to Faile so that it can be reinstalled.

Its worth the the price of you carrying it home, not much. This should be moved to ebay/trades.

As for the dumpster diver, what a dipshoot, stealing the one of a kind work of art and then posting a thread on the faile forum.
Tainted goods......

The difference between you and me my friend is that if i had found this stolen piece of public art i would return it to its owners, but you clearly lack the pride or integrity to do this. You could save yourself more embarrasment though. As you state that u 'found' the wheel and insist u did not nick it. Stop trying to flog it. Just return it. Easy...everyone's happy.

I respectfully ask you to define what you mean by "stolen public art" and the convince me about the rights of the "owners" of this "property"
if you can do that i will return it to faile & issue a public apology

I doubt you would return this object even if i was to convince you. But hey 'nothing lasts forever' eh? I hope the statue of liberty has no bolts loose.

Come on really, we're all friends here. No one's gonna say anything to faile, trust me, I doubt they even read this thing. You can't really expect any of the monkeys on this forum to think that you were just dumpster diving one day in Williamsburg and BAM! there it was, a heavy azz faile prayer wheel (clean as a whistle), wrapped in a tarp (that looks brand new, you can kinda see the folds still) anyway, I was talking with a few of the guys and we are just dying to know the real story. Come on, throw us a bone for god's sake!~

i wrapped it in a tarp, i always keep a tarp, rope, plastic ties, bleach and masking tape in the car.
it was knocked over or off the spin mechanism and metal pedastal onto a large pile of cardboard left at curbside and the restarant it was placed in front of did not want it. thats the simple story. the bar or restaurants in front of it are surrounded by two open overnight meat wholesalers so it was dumpsters and wooden pallets etc since there is no parking allowed there overnight just look at the signs
from the looks of it faile used very small screws, so wood against solid metal created a softening of the wood where it just fell over with a good kick or sme drunk bozo leaning on it
i placed it the backseat of a cab to my car in greenpint where it was placed in the trunk, wrapped in a tarp. i went back in the morning to figure out how to get the base but it was aready gone, so yu wanted a bone, the bone is the artist prob installed and removed their pieces for double fan blogging power, if you think about it why would someone remove the base with no art. from the look of the sidewak the bottom bolts were fake and did not secure it to the sidewalk. i was able to actually kick one of them off and saw that it was cut short and just welded on. there was sort of screw anchor configuraton inside the base not on that outside ring with the visible bolts...

The only reason why this thief is on this forum is cause he can't sell it anywhere as it will be incriminating to this person. If this person was honest it would have been returned to Faile by now. Simple. I just don't understand how it was 'found' in the dumpster and why he/she would post pics of the stolen spinning wheel on the Faile forum. Just another dumb crook

incriminate myself implies a crime was committed...
i will gadly incriminate myself if you can elaborate on what crime was commited?
any 'public apology' does not mean i admitted "stealing" it, it means ill return it to faile if anyne can convince me that its the right thing to do, pride or integrity has nothing to do with it
comparing this illegally installed piece factually considered a sidewalk obstruction and abandoned property to dismantling the statue of liberty is a stretch.
